Swancor Advanced Materials is promoting carbon capture and utilization (CCUS) projects to contribute to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality
Release Time: 2024-04-19

At present, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased from 280ppm before the Industrial Revolution to 410ppm. This has led to a series of ecological and environmental problems such as global warming, the melting of polar glaciers and the rise of sea levels. For this reason, reducing greenhouse gases and protecting the Earth has become a common requirement for an increasing number of countries. It is only natural that reducing CO2 emissions has also become the top priority for our country in addressing ecological and environmental issues.

From December 16 to 18, 2020, the Central Economic Work Conference listed "doing a good job in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" as one of the eight major tasks for 2021, and called for the prompt formulation of an action plan for peaking carbon emissions before 2030, accelerating the adjustment and optimization of the industrial structure and energy structure, promoting the early peaking of coal consumption, and vigorously developing new energy. Carry out large-scale land greening actions to enhance the carbon sequestration capacity of ecosystems.

Carbon capture solutions help significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions in industries that are difficult to cut, involving a wide range of raw materials. The application industries include: power, steel, cement, industry, petrochemicals, etc. CCUS, which stands for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage, refers to an industrial process that separates carbon dioxide from emission sources or directly utilizes or stores it to achieve carbon dioxide reduction. CCUS technology is regarded as one of the important technical paths to address climate change. For this reason, the "Plan" proposes that by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan, a number of key basic theories and technologies of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) will be broken through, with significant reduction in costs and energy consumption, and the design and integration capabilities of million-ton CCUS systems will be formed Build a research and development platform and innovation base for CCUS systems, and complete the construction of a full-process integrated demonstration system for carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage with an annual scale of 300,000 to 500,000 tons.

The carbon capture system mainly consists of a flue gas pretreatment system, absorption and regeneration system, compression and drying system, refrigeration and liquefaction system, etc. The involved links involve the flue gas treatment system and the corrosion of adsorbents. With the assistance of the R&D team of Swancor, the phenolic vinyl ester resin 907 series products were selected for application in the carbon capture system. The projects that have been cooperated so far involve domestic demonstration projects: The 100,000-ton food-grade carbon dioxide (dry ice) environmental protection technology project for capturing and purifying cement kiln tail gas of Tangshan Yannan Cement Co., Ltd. and the 300,000-ton carbon and nitrogen co-production project of CCUS for boiler flue gas of Haoji Power Plant of Xinfa Group.
