The environmental issues arising from the decommissioning of wind turbine blades have been a hot topic both at home and abroad in recent years. Currently, most people around the world still choose the cheapest ways to deal with decommissioning wind turbine blades, such as landfill and incineration. However, these two most convenient disposal methods have brought about new environmental problems and only address the symptoms rather than the root cause, failing to solve the fundamental pain.
Is it possible to recycle and reuse the composite materials in these products in a low-carbon economic way? If there is a new composite material with a new recycling technology, when it needs to be scrapped, only the cracking solution needs to be added to directly recover the resin and fibers, wouldn't it change the traditional rules? Swancor Company has innovatively launched two brand-new products, "EzCiclo Easy to Collect" and "CleaVER Easy to Solve", proposing future solutions that not only recycle wind turbine blades but also reuse them. "EzCiclo Easy recyclable" is a recyclable and reusable epoxy resin. Wind turbine blades made from "EzCiclo easy recyclable" using fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP, fiber-reinforced plastic) and carbon fiber composite materials can be recycled and degraded when they reach the end of their service life. Through the "CleaVER" technology, the "garbage" that was originally supposed to be waste is transformed into recycled fibers and oligomers. After being sorted and reused, it is made into raw materials for glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) and carbon fiber composite materials (CFRP), which is a recyclable system. As shown in the following figure
The existing recycling methods for composite materials can be classified into three types: thermal decomposition, microwave decomposition and chemical depolymerization recycling, but each has its own disadvantages. The "EzCiclo Easy Recyclable" and "CleaVER Instant Recyclable" systems of Swancor can not only recycle fibers but also resins. Moreover, the process does not produce waste solvents or exhaust gases, causes no secondary pollution (acids, alkalis), is reusable and safe (in compliance with EHS).
The "EzCiclo Easy to Collect" and "CleaVER Easy to Solve" systems of Swancor have the following advantages
(1) Customers do not need to change the current blade production process and equipment
(2) The recovered materials do not need to be crushed first, and the operation is convenient
(3) The resin can be recycled and reused, and the cracking and recovery process does not produce wastewater, waste acid or waste alkali, thus avoiding secondary pollution
Due to climate change, more than 140 countries around the world have set the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The European Union will impose a "carbon tariff" starting from 2023, and the United States is also planning to impose a carbon tariff on imported products. Carbon reduction is no longer an environmental issue but an economic one. Currently, all industries are moving towards net zero emissions and sustainable operation.
The "EzCiclo" and "CleaVER" products of Upwin can be applied in a wide range of industries. Besides the wind turbine blade field, they have also developed in the sports and automotive industries, and are actively expanding into PCB board factories and other fields.
Swancor has revolutionized the recycling rules through innovative chemical methods, which is a pioneering move to put the goal of resource efficiency and sustainability into practice. The entire process minimizes the consumption of raw materials to the greatest extent, increases the possibility of material reuse and recycling, and brings huge added value to the entire production process.
