Swancor collaborates with Siemens Gamesa to recycle wind turbine blades
Release Time: 2022-07-08

Swancor and Siemens Gamesa are committed to providing customers with environmentally friendly products and recycling solutions to realize the concept of a green circular economy. Set a new milestone for ESG actions towards carbon neutrality and committed to new materials.
Since 2015, Swancor has been engaged in the research of recyclable thermosetting epoxy resins. The newly launched globally revolutionary innovative products with a green circular economy - the recyclable thermosetting epoxy resin "EzCiclo Easy to Collect" and the chemically degradable liquid "CleaVER Easy to Decompose" - have now been provided to Siemens Gamesa, a leading global brand in renewable energy, for the certification process.

Through the global innovative technology developed by Upwind, recyclable wind turbine blades are produced. After the wind turbines are retired, the blades can simultaneously recover glass fiber and blade resin through a simple degradation process. The recycled materials can then be reused in the production of wind turbine blades or other manufacturing processes. The recycling process does not generate pollution such as waste solvents and exhaust gases, and it has a low carbon footprint This pioneering initiative has solved the environmental pollution problems caused by traditional burial or incineration, and will be able to achieve the goal of full recycling of wind turbine blades.

CAI Zhaoyang, the chairman of Swancor, stated: "In line with Siemens Gamesa's proactive commitment to industrial implementation, Swancor and Siemens Gamesa have entered into a strategic cooperation on recyclable blade resins. Through our innovative technology of recyclable thermosetting epoxy resins, the recycled blade resins and composite material fibers will be reused to help Siemens Gamesa realize its vision of recycling full wind turbine units in Taiwan." Swancor will continue to take "devoting to carbon neutrality and creating new materials" as its mission and contribute to net-zero carbon emissions and a circular economy!

Niels Steenberg, Chairman of Siemens Gamesa's Offshore Wind Operations Development in the Asia-Pacific region, said: Our goal is to provide customers with a resource recycling solution for all wind turbine components. Through cooperation with Upwind on the technology of recyclable resin for wind turbine blades, we recycle composite materials such as blade resin, glass fiber, and carbon fiber, and reuse them in the wind turbine process, creating a sustainable life cycle for wind turbine blades and becoming a strong support for Taiwan to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050!
